To mark the launch of Harry Bingham's The Writers' & Artists' Guide to Getting Published, The Writers' Workshop is launching a unique one-day event in London which will bring together agents, publishers, and book doctors to help you on your way to publication.
The day assumes that you have either completed your manuscript - or that you are a good way towards completion. The day will focus relentlessly on the key issues for writers at this stage in their career:
- How to select possible agents
- How to approach agents: covering letters, synopsis, openings.
- How to interpret feedback from agents: silence, rejection, 'nice' rejections ... and the lovely word yes.
- What agents are looking for from first time writers
- What the market wants - and how you can deliver it
- Whether your manuscript is yet strong enough for submission.
We aim to ensure that you'll leave with an action plan to guide you on your next steps towards publication.

Our Speakers
Our keynote speaker will be Bill Hamilton, MD of AM Heath, one of London's oldest and most prestigious literary agencies. We're going to have independent literary agent, Jane Judd, talking about how to approach agents; actor and playwright, Miles Barden, on how to pitch your book face to face.
Our afternoon panels, bringing together agents, independent and mainstream publishers will give you a fabulous insight into what the trade wants and how you can deliver it.

Our Book Doctors
Most first time writers make one of two mistakes when getting ready to approach agents. The most common error is to think the book is ready before it actually is - remember, only the best of the best will be taken on. The second crucial error is to misread the market for the kind of book you have written.
Our book doctors are there to alert you to those mistakes before you make them - and give you clear guidance on how to fix them. You'll get robust written feedback plus the chance to discuss. For more info, click here or use buttons below.
Our Philosophy
Like everything we do at the Writers' Workshop, this event is run by writers for writers. We want to help you make your work wonderful - to do all we can to help you through towards publication. We've had plenty of clients become bestselling authors before now and we'd love to help you join their number.
The WW is run by Harry Bingham, author of five novels, 2 popular non-fiction books, and The WAYB Guide to Getting Published.

Having fun
Finally, we believe that writing and everything associated it should be a pleasure. We'll do all we can to keep the event fun and upbeat. If our Festival of Writing was anything to go by, this event will be useful - but also fun and a fabulous place to meet people and make friends. We very much hope so, and look forward to welcoming you there. |
